It\u2019s true! If and when diabetes (of any type) is left uncontrolled and dental care is not tended to, the combination can result in a few different dental conditions such as the following:<\/p>\n

Gum Disease:<\/strong> Due to a decreased blood supply to the gums, diabetic dental patients may be more at risk to develop gum disease. Symptoms of gum disease include: red, swollen, and bleeding gums. If left untreated for an extended period of time, gum disease can turn into a serious mouth infection called periodontitis that can result in missing teeth.<\/p>\n

Dry Mouth:<\/strong> Due to reduced saliva production, a common symptom of diabetes is an unquenchable thirst. While this isn\u2019t a dental problem in itself, dry mouth can actually cause a variety of other problems like dental decay. Dry mouth can even worsen the effects of gum disease, and may cause more frequent tooth cavities!<\/p>\n
